MEDICAL MISSION AT CAMIGUIN

MEDICAL MISSION AT CAMIGUIN

The Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro (RCCDO) took the lead in their Medical Mission by inviting group of highly specialized doctors in the field of Eye Disease Management to do FREE Cataract Operations to indigent patients. RCCDO Medical Mission commenced last November 2009 with a month-long search for patients suffering from Cataract Disease. The screening and evaluation done to potential candidates were headed by a local practitioner, Dr. Jun Lamatan, in the Island of Camiguin.

Dr. Carlo Romero

It was a bright sunny day of December 05, 2009, when President Manny Along and Rotary Ann President Biema Along headed the team composed of 10 Nurses, 3 Medical Practitioners (Dr. Carlo Romero, Dr. Augusto “Tito” Dejos, & Dr. Jun Lamatan), 4 other Rotarians and an Ann (PE Dietmar Schug, Dir. Alvin Benasa, Rtn. Leo Aba, Rtn. Dexter Bandera, & Ann Angelu Bandera), and went to Camiguin to offer free eye operation to its community. The team operated 34 indigent patients in Camiguin General Hospital, Mambajao, Camiguin Island. Initially, there were only twenty (20) patients screened prior to date of operation, however, when the medical team started their operations at 5:30 p.m. and continued non-stop till 11:30 p.m., we have recorded no less than 34 patients composed of 33 suffering from cataract and a lone male patient with pterygium case. Thanks to our local partners who helped spread the news all over the municipalities of Camiguin.

Medical Team

The number of patients successfully operated that day was another milestone for the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro, surpassing past records of no greater than 32.
